Joel Goldsmith says “this is the time of year
that we wish everyone a new year,
but the truth is that no one can
bring a happy new year to someone else.
We have to do that for ourselves.

Joel says that when we wish someone else happy new year,
and doing so to the degree
we are loving our neighbor as ourselves
and loving God and grace and peace and absolute good,
then and only then are we “fulfilling the terms”
that will ensure ourselves
“a happy and prosperous New Year.”

“When you wish a person a happy New Year,
be sure that in your mind you are not wishing
him personally a happy New Year,
but that you are including all [humanity],
recognizing that every person is a branch of the one tree and,
therefore, what you wish for one you must wish for all,
or you, yourself, have nothing.

“Try to wish good for one branch of the tree
and forget the other branches and see what effect it would have.
None. . . . for God’s love is universal.

 “God is no respecter of persons, or of races or religions.
To God we are all one.
. . . . Your concern is never to forget the tree of Life.
. . . . [that] God is universal, impersonal, impartial. . . .

“Every second is the beginning of a new life
because in any second and in every second
you can wipe out your past.
You do not have to wait for the first day of January to begin a new life.
You do not have to wait for January first to forgive or to be forgiven.
You do not have to wait for January first to wish the whole world peace on earth.
You do not have to wait for January first to stop hating
or to eliminate prejudice, bias, and bigotry from consciousness.
You can begin a new life in any second.”
